Radar Observer Unlimited - Course #148
This 5 day course is recommend for all levels of deck watch crew and is required for all deck officers of radar equipped vessels. The goal of this course is to train candidates in the proper use of radar for risk assessment, collision avoidance and navigation. This course utilizes the MPT SMART Simulation Center. Trainees use commercial Radar Equipment and Ship Simulators with landmasses, environmental effects and vessel returns. This course will satisfy the Radar Training Requirements of STCW A-II/1 and A-II/3 for deck officers standing watch on an Radar equipped vessel.

Any applicant who has successfully completed Radar Observer (Unlimited) (MARTPT-399) course satisfies the requirements of:
The radar observer training requirement of 46 CFR 11.480(d) for an endorsement as Radar Observer (Unlimited); AND
The radar observer training requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(ii), 11.317(a) (3)(vi), 1l.319(a)(4)(ii) , 11.321(a)(3)(vi); AND
The radar standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.309(a)(3), 11.317(a) (2), 11.319(a)(3), 11.321(a)(2) and Section A-II/1 and A-II/3 and Table A-II/1 and A-II/3 of the STCW Code, as amended; AND
Assessment tasks 1.4.A, 1.4.B, 3.1, 3.2.A, 3.2.B, 3.3.A, and 3.4 from NVICs 12-14(Ch-2) and 02-18; AND
Assessment tasks 1.8.A and 1.8.B from NVIC 13-14(Ch-1).
Applicants need not submit completed Task Control sheets in application for an STCW endorsement.
